Finally fell asleep on her own!

Tags:

Two nights ago I thought it was a fluke, that she was just sleepy enough to drift off after I put her down, but tonight Lucie went to sleep all on her own without crying or even complaining much! I can't believe that it actually happened.
For months now I've been working towards a very strict bedtime routine, asthma treatment, bottle, books, cuddles, and more bottle, then bed when almost asleep or all asleep. Until this week she's started crying the instant I've put her down. (We can't let her cry it out because of her asthma.) But these last few nights she's cuddled up with her lovey and has actually fallen asleep.
Next step: sleeping more than 4 or 5 hours for her first stretch and then eating every two hours. Ack.

That is awesome!! I can't wait until Regan starts to do that! Rhonda - Sammy's mom - posted a reply to another sleep issue and she has a way to break kids of their normal sleep habits and get them to sleep thru the night - 12 hours - in only 3 days!!! You will have to send her an email to get the info, she can't post it because of it's length. Hopefully she doesn't mind me passing this on, but she holds the magic key to all mommys dreams!

I hope Lucie keeps this up for you! I know with you working outside the home you must be absolutely exhausted every day!

I can not even put into words the excitement I feel for you!!! It is one of the best feelings isnt it? My son was a tough guy with the sleeping in the beginning and partially due to my always rocking him for the first three months but now he is a whole new man! I thought I was going to explode with joy when he fell asleep on his own. I didn't do the crying out thing either because he has a very strong personality and will not relent if you let him cry and because I didnt feel good about it myself. But here we are, Nathan is about 6 months old and falls asleep on his own almost every time now naps and night time! I LOVE IT and I am so proud of him, I think it is all about them being ready and of course us being ready to do what we need to get them there. Yay for Lucie, I will be thinking about you girls and praying this is the beginning of her doing this each night!

YEAH!!! How wonderful! There is nothing like when your child learns to fall asleep on their own. I had no idea that I needed to do that, so I had Sammy SO dependent on many different sleep crutches. He would either fall asleep breastfeeding, sucking on a pacifier, or while I rocked and swayed him. Nobody told me I should let him learn to fall asleep on his own!

And, Alicia, I totally don't mind you passing along the info! It is something I came across online one day, and it completely changed our lives. If anyone is interested in reading it, please send me a message with your e-mail and I will definitely pass it along! I know that not everthing works for everyone, but it worked for us, so I can only hope the same for everyone else!
