Non Toxic Paint and Primer
Trista and Ryan's Pick: Safecoat Zero VOC Flat Paint
Problem:
Most homes built before 1960 contain heavily leaded paint, and some homes built as recently as 1978 may also contain lead paint. Exposure to lead, a toxic heavy metal, can occur via lead paint. This paint could be on window frames, walls, the outside of homes, old hand-me-down cribs and even in new/imported toys and jewelry. Even regular paint today can release toxic emissions and VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) into the air we breathe and should be avoided.
Solution:
Use low or zero VOC paints (which do not outgas volatile organic compounds). These new paints are durable, cost-effective and less harmful to human and environmental health. Leave lead-based paint undisturbed if it is in good condition - do not sand or burn off paint that may contain lead. Use a lead test kit to identify places and household objects where lead is lurking. When remodeling, be sure to choose a low or Zero VOC paint.
