All about "eating"

Mountains and Valleys

04/09/2008

Isn't that how it goes sometimes? There are highs and lows constantly! Yesterday, we had an AWFUL day in the highchair at the mall. Today, Sammy not only ate a fabulous breakfast, lunch, AND dinner, but he also sat perfectly in his highchair at Steak and Shake while I was able to catch up with a friend (and help her feed her 2 month old twin boys---talk about having your hands full!!)! He sat in his highchair there for over an hour (I think I may need to call Guinness because this might be a record), he ate all of his food, some snacks, watched people go by, drank a bottle, and played with toys! Anyone there would never have guessed that this very little perfect, well behaved little boy was the little monster in the mall the previous day!

I tell you, I love this boy with all of my heart...through the good and the bad! I was just SO proud of him today! :-) Maybe he figured it was time to be a big boy since it is almost his birthday!

Back To Birth Weight

04/03/2008

We took Lorelai back to see Dr. May this week. We all had bets on how much she would weigh because she really seemed to be putting the weight back on. She weighed in at 6 lbs 10.5 oz, just above her original birth weight. What a relief!

The doctor wanted me to start trying to breast feed again because we thought my milk was coming in (I had just had a pumping session where I generated about 1oz of milk). The plan was to start her on the breast and then top her off with a bottle until I was creating enough milk to sustain her, roughly 15oz per day.

She latched on just fine but wasn't getting anything but frustrated so I fed her the bottle and pumped. I only got teaspoons again. I was devastated and called the lactation consultant, Robyn. Robyn was concerned because I should have been producing more milk so she recommended I get a blood test done to check for a few things that could hinder milk production...retained placenta (HCG levels), testosterone, progesterone and thyroid levels. I went yesterday for the tests and should hear something back by tomorrow afternoon.

Until then we will continue to bottle feed and pump, adding what I do get with the pump to the bottles.

He ate something!!!

04/01/2008

Well, I can't believe it, but Sammy had a really good lunch today. David and I had eaten spaghetti the night before, so I decided to see if Sammy would eat any for lunch today. We had tried some a couple of months back, and he had no interest. But, that was when I was trying to feed it to him on a spoon, and I learned the hard way that if it is chunky in anyway, that he will not take it on a spoon from me, he has to do it himself. So, I put some on his highchair tray, and cut it up, and he just ate and ate! It was not only awesome because he was EATING (which he never does) but it was also REALLY cute. He had spaghetti everywhere. So, of course, I had to capture the moment. I will post some pictures of this momentous occasion. I just hope that he keeps this eating trend up!

Slap Happy

03/17/2008

When Noah decides he likes a food, he slaps his hand down on the highchair tray! It's so cute and funny, we laugh every time! After he finishes a bite, he'll slap his hand down on the tray to signal that he's ready for more. His little face gets very serious, his eyes grow wide with anticipation, and he stares at the spoon as though it might get away from him. When the spoon gets within inches of his face, he opens wide and relinquishes his grip on the traytop.

Richard and I have been desperately trying to get this on video - stay tuned!

Loving it
